Couvade -
by Nick Clements
for Juno
Magazine
Couvade was a
rite of passage undertaken by the father before and during the first
days of his child's birth. It was performed on every continent
and was particularly strongly upheld in the Basque and Celtic
regions, only dying out in the late 1800's and since then it has
been buried. Nick seeks to re-examine the practice and to develop a
new way of introducing it to our present culture.
